Classic NFL uniforms
....... it occurred to me while watching Giants v Packers how classic and classy all NFL unis are.  The color combinations and logos “mean something” and are enduring.  Unlike the scary trend in college FB unis (thank you Phil Knight!)..... Maybe it’s because the NFL does not make its brand identification decisions based on fashion whims of semi-literate 18 y/os.  Ya think?

.... You all know Holden Thorp is “my guy”.  I have supported him 110% in firing The Butch(er) of Kenan on both Why and When.  It is a lonely position but one I am comfortable with.   But always shooting straight with YOU is #1 with me.
    Last week during the Baddourian Farewell Farce, Holden got caught up in the pomposity and pure sham.  Before anyone could stifle him, the too benevolent Chancellor named The Leadership Academy after the departing bureaucrat.
    Sure.  The “Just Call Me Dickie” Leadership Academy @ The Phyllis George’s SugarDaddy's Giant End Zone Place is more feel-good fluff than substance.   That lessens the hoot factor somewhat.
    It was Dickie’s sustained administrative clueless inattention that allowed The Butch(er) to operate his Thug sanctuary for four years.  Normally when a subordinate’s incompetence so stains one’s own legacy, one does not say “Atta boy.  Thank you very much!”
    This sets a frightening precedent that should scare the bejeebers out of Tar Heels everywhere.... and further delight ABCers around the world.  Upcoming building dedications in the Carolina pipeline?

   An athlete is benched for dropping a pass, striking out or missing a free throw; yet two levels upline the program’s Director is lauded for 15-years of foul balls, fumbles, errors and missed assignments.

   But BobLee; he was loyal, got his reports in on time and worked cheap.  And he DID pay the bills on time.   Dickie woulda been a very fine CFO.  He was NOT a very fine CEO. ...... So give him a Tar Heel paperweight and lets all move on.

...... between the two, within 52 hours Roy & Sylvia got trounced by a total of 84 points.  Only a Clemson football fan can “feel our pain”. 
   During the death gurgle of the recent football season, how many UNCers said “Basketball will make our pain go away....”   What do we do now?

....... Raylan has his hat and Boyd is Boyd and the Deliverance crazies of Harlan County are back on Tuesday night on FX.   JUSTIFIED ain’t Leave It To Beaver but for fans of “edgy and raw” drama it’s Must See TV.

Baby Brother Eli
...... He is a proven “winner” on the Big Stage and among “the 5-6 elite QBs in the NFL”.... but Baby Brother Eli still looks like an Asst Mgr at your local Dick’s Sporting Goods.  He IS a bona fide gunslinger but sure doesn’t look like one.

........ Whether one believes “Baghdad Steve” Kirschner or not.... Ol’ Roy’s latest “stepped in it again” further crowds the list of The Ol’ Roy Top Five BOINKS.
     JayHawk sticker.... Presbyterian guy..... BB gun..... Coke can.... Freakin.... Tallahassee Scramble..... I’m staying..... (the next one)..... (the ones after the next one).....
    Howsabout designating a section of “the rafters” to commemorate Roy’s BOINKS?
    Have ya noticed that every Roy BOINK generates an immediate Pavlovian response from ABCers, especially the Brickyard Bunch – They should simply laugh at him for his never-ending pratfalls, but noooo; they get all indignant.  Which is almost as funny as Roy.
    Roy is Carolina’s “Crazy Cuzzin Eddie”.  Like it or not, he IS family and gets invited to Thanksgiving Dinner.  But maybe its time we started hiding the good china.

     
 
    Normally a Roy BOINK brings out the hard-core Tru-Blues to defend “our boy Roy” but this time the hard-core Tru-Blues are in stunned silence over the 33 point MASSACRE.  General Custer loved his mother.  Who cares?

BL, Great Rimshots. You certainly provide more than enough "inside" info to keep the average ABC'er on a permanent high. I will take exception with your mass characterization of the Brickyard Bunch. Many of my fellow Lupine Loonies do NOT want Roy Impeached. I have read diligently all the postings on the various media sites. Time and my sanity did NOT permit going to the "boards" (those fur him and those agin him). There were over 350 comments. Very few defended Coach William's actions. Most were just expressing disbelief in the magnitude of the loss and his mental implosion at the end. Due to current events, many compared him to Captain Francesco Schettino or to President Obama. I certainly do NOT believe that Bubba Cunningham will rip off Coach 2 Ringer's buttons and smash his swagger stick, BUT I would have hoped for some type of apology instead of the PR that was done on a local sports station so that some of the heat would be turned down prior to his radio show. But, we all know that dictators never admit that they shredded the wrong person. I do think that you need to increase the "shelf life" of this event. I predict it will go on for five years, or until another ring is acquired. Keep pounding those keys. ........................................... ................................................. ................................. BL: It's Bubba show now. I betcha he is still watching to see how Baghdad Steve, Roy et al try to put toothpaste back in a tube. .... Agreed that adults Wuffs simply enjoy the Monty Python absurdity of it all. I realized I'm not absorbed in all things Columbia blue, but fill me in on DBaddour's failures beyond letting Roy stay in Kansas (currently looks to me like it's a Roy thing not a DB failure but I regress), letting the BOT hire BD (when is a good Lt a good Lt) and telling people Beamer was moving from Bburg to CH (not the only AD to help a coach get a raise from his current employer). The unc athletics program had it's most successful run during his tenure as defined by # of championships, revenue generated and facilityimprovements. Why do you disrespect him so much when he is the walking-talking example of TarHeelia? ...................... .................................................... ............................ BL: Easy answer is because I am NOT a walking-talking example of TarHeelia. I sip the Kool-Aid in itty bitty sips veeeery slowly... Dickie was never anything but a Chief Accountant. He did run a sound financial ship to his credit (his predecessor did not). ... He was at the epicenter of 4 major coach misfires. Misfires that a sound administrator would not have committed even allowing that "hires" are always a crapshoot to a degree.... He was intimidated by his Big hires and was considered a joke by his "peers" around the country.... This retirement glorification simply gets my goat.... but I guess you figured that out, huh? ........................ ................................................... ......................................

Based on what I read around the country, the running a sound financial ship part seems harder than the coach hiring for most. I saw where Md is cancelling all men's sports except football, basketball and battery tossing at least partly due to the financial management skills of their former AD. .................... ............................................... .....................................BL: Financial management is very important... so is knowing what is going on under your nose for four years. ........................... ...............................................

"Asylum For The Terminally Goofy" ... OOOOOooooo I know SO many who fit that bill, both in light blue and every other color. As for the uniforms du jour the bowl unis from West Virginia two bowls back (the camo ones) didn't do anything to keep them from getting ambushed. It does make you wonder though when the big boys wear the throw backs that indeed even theirs have evolved, BUT most do remain classy, Have a great day Bobbie and thanks again for a great Thursday chuckle. ......................................... .................................................. ..................... ABCers have had a multiyear, nearly every day Christmas since BD slithered into town. And Roy is Roy. He's no goofier here than he was in Kansas, just closer by. There is a small faction over here on the Brick yard that will get wound tighter than Dick's hat band over anything UNC. They are small but loud. And fun to watch. When one adds the small faction of glue-sniffers at the Tar Pit that eternally see UNC as a national football power in waiting, you have the perfect script for a SNL skit or a Muppett movie. These two groups have the collective IQ of a head of cabbage and the social skills of a skunk. Blessings be that they remain anonymous behind their keyboards. And Doogie......... well, maybe Roy's "influence" is spreading. Somethings just can't be explained. .......................... .................................................. ............................. BL: JDan that there was a cornucopia of zingers! What do you think of Dickie being named to head up the committe for the ENTIRE unc system to look at best practices for coaching contracts?... That was kindof odd to say the least! , I just finished "The Gray Man" book one....He can kick some arse - a good book - I hope that the rest are as good...Who would come out on top in a fight (I know, they would be on the same side, but ... ) Reacher or Jim?... Have you read the Rain series by Barry Eisler? John Rain is another of these kind of characters. Some more good reading!............... ................................. ........ BL:: "Court" is one dangerous dude. He and Reacher have lots in common for sure. I've read one John Rain so far. ... Tom Ross appointing Dickie to that role could only happen in a country where Joe Biden can be VP. ............................. .................................

With the MOB of FSU students and fans ready to pounce on the BB court, this could have gotten out of hand and injuries on both sides could have occurred. It was my understanding that both coaches agreed to the "walk" and was instigated by the FSU coach. I say kudos to both coaches for having some common sense... ............................................... ............................................... ................. BL: I hope Roy appreciates your blind loyalty. He's sending over a 55 gallon drum of Blue Kool-Aid... The Refs stop a game, not the coaches. ......................... ..............................................

Nice column, Old Roy must have been high on Cheerwine when he exited stage left with 14 seconds to go. Dabo said he wished he had thought of it but he couldn't find 11 players willing to go in as substitutes. Won't be long until some UNC opponent pep band leader starts playing the old Fats Domino song, "I'm Walking" when it looks like Roy and nomads are faced with another defeat. ........................... ........................................... ........................................... .... BL: With upcoming trips to both RBC and Cameron, I'm sure creative minds are hard at work .............................. .........................................

And I thought I was the only one laughing and enjoying that mess. FOR SURE I will be watching the other away games now. You know the courts will be stormed, maybe whether or not the other teams win. Cant wait to see !! That Lost Colony highway marker was a stroke of genius by someone, right? Sometimes it is fun to watch balloons popped. Poor Roy, I hope he has a sense of humor. In some ACC arena that hosts Roy's team the clock operator will begin the second half with 19:46 instead of 20:00 on the clock.An official will correct the person who will reply " We're playing UNC. You know,Roy's team.I was just trying to save him some grief and embarassment this time around." ...................... ......................................... ......................................... .... BL: The blowback by rival fans will be 100% predictable (and deserved!). Most of the fan taunts will be trite and well-worn but there will be occasional really creative ones. I prefer the latter. Cameron should be the most creative of course. ..................... .........................................

BL: Lord Luv A Duck! - the legendary sportwriter Red Smith was once asked how he wrote his columns. His reply - "I simply cut a vein and the blood drips out drop by drop..." - Other than BREAKING NEWS it's simply too much to do more frequent stuff. Quality will surely suffer. THAT SAID - I will have a new column starting next week in chapelboro.com - as for the video thingy. I liked that too but it was a hassle to "do right". Wow! Lewis' insights sound like they came from the SID for UNC. Does anyone have the stats on court rushing? Probably happens a dozen, two dozen times a year in D1 basketball games. Is the carnage under-reported. Except for the tragedy that Roy cited (the manager being bumped over), I do not remember reading of the ER overflowing with casualties after any court rush. In your reply to terry, you are saying the Indians are not as creative in their game antics as American born Dukies? 60% though? Even granting hyperbole license... .............................. ........................................ ............................. BL: My Mumbai % came from an in-person observation of the Duke student section at a game #@ The Wally this Fall. 60% is about right.... which is fine w/ me.
